Nelson Jazz Festival 2-6th January 2011

I am happy to be playing with Black Sand Diva at Nelson this year. This is BSD’s second performance at the festival in a row and will be a good do!

Super soul jazz funk groove thing going on, the jazz chameleons known to change feel and coat as the mood takes – BlackSandDiva soar from slinky Jazz grooves to rocked up roots, soul, and r n b fusion to create a unique sound organic to the Wild West Coast. BlackSandDiva is led by the voice and song writing of Westie rock girl turned jazz diva Cat Tunks – Arli Liberman (guitar) Aaron Coddel (bass) Mark Baynes (piano) and Jason Orme (drums). With the release of the album Chameleon earlier this year, BlackSandDiva has been able to walk the boundaries between the Jazz and popular music scene, played on both commercial, National, and alternative radio stations. The funky rock grooves still able to stay true to its Jazz roots, bridging the gap between Jazz and mainstream audiences, and becoming known for its energetic live improvisation and catchy tunes. Cat Tunk’s strong vocal presence has seen her work with many of New Zealand’s leading musicians and visiting artists, spending 6 years working in Europe and then supporting many of NZ’s top Acts – and working in Festivals all over the Pacific.
