FUENTES
BAYNES

Latin Jazz · Duo & Trio · Auckland, NZ

TWO WORLDS,
ONE GROOVE

Miguel Fuentes and Mark Baynes formed Fuentes Baynes in 2021, uniting Mark's deep passion for Afro-Cuban music with Miguel's mastery of Latin percussion. Piano and congas through danzón, cha cha cha, mambo, bolero, Latin arrangements of swing tunes in the Cal Tjader tradition, Herbie Hancock, funk, soul and groove.

Add saxophonist Tim Hopkins and the duo becomes Fuentes Hopkins Baynes — a trio with an even wider palette and a bigger sound that fills any room.

The difference? Commitment to the music comes first — clave-centric, tight and polished. This is the real deal.

Both line-ups available for jazz clubs, festivals, corporate events, and private functions throughout New Zealand.

His international touring credits include Patti LaBelle, Grover Washington Jr, George Benson, and Isaac Hayes. Since relocating to New Zealand he has become the country's first-call Latin percussionist, performing and recording with Nathan Haines, Jennifer Zea, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Sola Rosa, and Jonathan Crayford. Tim was born in Auckland and raised in Brisbane. He graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and won the Australian National Jazz Award at the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz.
